About Spy Hearing
Spy Hearing is a knowledge hub for iPhone audio amplification, hearing enhancement, Live Listen, sound amplifier apps, and background recording. We publish independent tests, honest comparisons, and clear how-tos.
Editorial principles
- Test data reflects real measurements taken on iPhone hardware; methodology and environment are always disclosed inline.
- Every product recommendation is based on hands-on use — no affiliate-driven scoring, no rewrites of press releases.
- Recording-consent laws vary by state. Content is educational and cites primary sources; it is not legal advice.
- The Spy Hearing app is not a medical hearing aid. It is a personal sound amplifier and is not intended to diagnose or treat hearing loss.
The Spy Hearing app
Spy Hearing amplifies audio through headphones up to 16×, offers five EQ presets and an 8-band parametric EQ, and supports background recording with the screen off. Available on the App Store.

Alongside Spy Hearing, our team ships three companion iPhone audio apps that solve adjacent problems. Where a guide on this site mentions a use case a companion app fits better, we link to it — with disclosure — rather than force-fit Spy Hearing.
- Voice Amplifier: Live Mic — Amplify your own voice through a Bluetooth speaker — for teachers, coaches, karaoke hosts, and presenters.
- Music Amplifier: Volume Boost — Boost quiet audio files up to 1000% with equalizer presets and bass enhancement.
- Video Sound Enhancer (Boomy) — Boost video soundtracks up to 1000% with bass, voice focus, and reverb effects.
